The turntable of the future

Could this be the future of turntables, where digital technology meets proprietary linear-tracking playback? The new brand Zephir Apollo promises it will enhance your listening pleasure:

"We believe that technology, when used the right way, can improve on your listening experience and make it more convenient to listen to your favourite records while still giving you the best analogue audio possible. The Zephyr Apollo comes fully equipped with a range of cutting-edge features to enhance music quality, introduce playback programming, and increase the lifespan of your vinyl."

The most important features are:

  • a tangential tonearm
  • the ability to control the turntable via an app on your phone
  • create a “playlist” using tracks on the record side that’s playing
  • automatic stop at the end of the record

The project is not manufactured yet. Instead a kickstarter campaign has been set up to fund the production. Who is behind this?

"We’re music lovers, vinyl collectors, and we own our own record store, Vinylicious Records in Singapore! Operating a record store allows us to interact with record collectors from all walks of life. The biggest peeve among our customers is the inconvenience they face when wanting to skip certain tracks and having to walk over to manually stop the turntable once it reaches the end of the record."
